A transformer is also called a LED power supply or LED driver. They are used to increase or decrease alternating current; they convert mains voltage into low current. This way the LED devices as LED panels are provided with the right voltage and current and they are illuminated long and efficiently.
Application of a Transformer
LED lighting uses a lower wattage than traditional lighting. This means that LED lighting needs a lower current. The current that comes directly from the power outlet has a current of 230 volts and is too high for LED lighting. A LED driver converts this current to a lower and constant current, which is suitable for LED lights. This constant current also ensures that the lights will not blink.
Dimmable transformers also serve to make your LED lighting dimmable. To actually dim the panels, an LED dimmer is needed.
